The problem

Recorded lectures are inaccessible to deaf students and impossible to search or reuse.

  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing students cannot use the recorded material at all
  • A semester of video is unsearchable, so nothing gets reused
  • Captioning by hand costs more per hour than recording the lecture did

What changes

Transcripts and subtitles for every recording, which also makes the material searchable and reusable.

  • Accessible material for every student
  • Subtitles for the recorded video
  • Course content searchable across a semester

What matters here

  • Accessibility compliance

Captions and transcripts are what accessibility policies require for recorded teaching.

  • Technical vocabulary

Specialist terms transcribe better than you expect, but always review the first few minutes.

  • Long recordings

Files up to 5 GB, so a full lecture uploads in one piece.

Lectures: common questions

Are automatic captions enough for accessibility compliance?

Not on their own. Standards expect accurate captions, and automatic output needs a human pass — usually a few minutes per video. Automatic captions get you 95% of the way; the review is what makes them compliant.

How does it handle subject-specific terminology?

Better than most people expect, but check the first few minutes of any lecture with heavy jargon. If names and key terms come through correctly there, the rest usually holds.

Can we process a whole semester at once?

Yes — unlimited transcription on paid plans, files up to 5 GB each, and the API if you want it wired into your recording system.
